Episode 44: The Materialism Episode

In this episode, Jaquelle and Sean talk about materialism – when stuff is good and when it’s bad. They also talk about finding a teenager to replace Jaquelle on the podcast, what Sean wants for his birthday, and whether the listeners like our jibber-jabber.

*Note: At 08:45 and 09:10, Sean holds up his phone to play the Google definition of “materialism.” The sound gets pretty quiet, so if you missed it, this is the definition: “a tendency to consider material possessions and physical comfort as more important than spiritual values.”

  1. I was reading an article awhile back (I would link to it if I could remember) about the people that win the lottery and how miserable their lives are after winning and how many of them will say they wish they had never won. But when asked if they would give their money away, they emphatically say no.

When we place so much emphasis on laying up treasures here on earth, and yet see that it doesn’t bring happiness, it shows we have pretty hard hearts when we say we would never be able to give this or that away. So, really, it’s only God’s grace that could ever set us free from that mind set on earthly things, and that hardened heart.
